About Bloomfield Arts & Crafts Studio
At Bloomfield, creativity meets confidence! We’re an arts and crafts studio where kids, teens, and adults learn hands-on skills that inspire imagination and build lifelong confidence. From painting to sewing, we provide a warm, engaging space for learning through making.
Position Overview
We’re seeking a skilled and patient Sewing Instructor who can confidently teach both kids (ages 9+) and adults — from complete beginners to intermediate learners. You’ll guide students through our structured sewing curriculum while bringing your own expertise to help them grow beyond the basics.
We measure success in this role by students leaving class more confident with a needle and machine than when they walked in — and excited to come back for more. This is a great fit for someone who loves teaching, thrives in a creative, fast-paced environment, and enjoys seeing students build skills they’re proud of.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Teach sewing classes for kids and adults using Bloomfield’s lesson plans and your own sewing expertise
- Instruct students on hand sewing, machine sewing, and garment construction using commercial patterns
- Guide students from foundations (threading, basic stitches) to advanced skills (alterations, reading/making patterns)
- Foster a positive, encouraging, and fun classroom environment
- Communicate with parents about student progress and class updates
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe sewing space
- Collaborate with team members to ensure smooth class operations
- Contribute to improving sewing projects and curriculum as needed
- Prepare students for the studio’s Triannual Showcase, building their skills throughout the session toward their showcase piece
Qualifications
- Proficiency in hand sewing and machine sewing (required)
- Experience with garment construction, alterations, and commercial sewing patterns
- Ability to teach students of different ages and skill levels
- Previous teaching or instructional experience (art, dance, or studio experience a plus)
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Patience, organization, and a collaborative mindset
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, creative studio environment
Schedule
- Weekday afternoons & evenings
- Saturdays: full-day availability (morning through evening)
- Average of 10–20 hours per week, based on class schedules and enrollment
Compensation
$14–$16 per hour, based on experience
